DIY fountains - building from the ground up

For the do-it-yourselfer, bringing all of those separate elements together to form your vision is the pinnacle of creation.

You start with an idea, draw up the concept, refine the plans, and then set about combining those elements to make your dream a reality. DIYers are probably drooling as we type this, and many have likely abandoned their computers now to hastily complete a project they've left sitting undone in the basement or garage. You're welcome, glad we could help.

We here at HGC haven't forgotten about you DIYers, especially when it comes to designing and building your own fountain. Sure, we've got plenty of ready-made fountains here that just need to be setup and installed and you're good to go. But if you have that urge for personalization, that desire to have in your home only those things you've designed yourself, then we can certainly help out.

From basins to pumps to the centerpiece of your design, at HGC we have what you need in an array of styles and finishes from classic to contemporary.

Starting from the ground up, we can help you select a basin that is the perfect size for your design. Next, determine what you want the water to do. Will it cascade quietly and gently, or will it splash merrily and fill the air with its magical tinkle?

How the water behaves depends on the spout, or fountain nozzle. At HGC we carry a variety of centerpieces, vases, emitters and the like.

When designing your own fountain, you will quickly learn that just about anything can serve as the finial or centerpiece. Here at HGC, we have everything from stone archipelagos to stone spheres to faux millstones and cast stone urns and containers. We can even help convert a birdbath into a centerpiece with ease.

River stones, polished pebbles, boulders, even sandstone pellets can all play a part in your final product. Using them to cover the top grating - if indeed your design requires one - adds another layer of depth and texture to the fountain. And while we do not carry them here at HGC, if plants are a part of your design, we can help you decide what works best for you. Plants make a unique and living addition to your creation, with a variety of plants available including water lilies or lily pads, hyacinth and Louisiana Iris. Even certain ivies grow in places where water is abundant.

We can give tips on water clarity, winterizing and other maintenance ideas to keep your fountain working for years to come. We can even add lights to your display for the ultimate fountain experience, turning your meditative center into a beautiful piece of sculpture using light and water.

Nothing you image is impossible - and we'll help you get there! Stop in today and see!
